Description

A 1-day STEP Maths Preparation Course for students sitting PAT, ENGAA, NSAA or similar exams for entry to Oxford or Cambridge. Takes place in July, at the start of the summer holidays.

If you have your sights set on a physics degree at a top university, you are likely to have to take an entrance exam which has a substantial pure maths component and also tests your mathematical knowledge and ability in its physics questions. Hence, practice with short maths questions is essential to preparation for the test.

In this course, we will guide you through a selection of novel maths questions and past questions from older admissions tests, intended to be useful even for those who have seen all readily available past questions. You will have a chance to work through specially-selected questions in cooperation with some of your fellow applicants. A solution to each question will be presented succinctly and with full explanation by an expert tutor in order to demonstrate the quickest or surest technique and why it was chosen.

The skills and topics we will cover include:

  • Justifying and qualifying inferences
  • Iterating and composing functions
  • Using inequalities and estimates
  • Managing higher order polynomials
  • Sketching unfamiliar graphs

What our students said:

Engaging question-by-question analysis. Great teaching and help with questions if required.
– Ed

I really enjoyed this course because it allowed me to challenge myself as well as improving my ability to think outside of the box when it comes to finding less obvious solutions to physics problems.”
– Aisha

“Nice atmosphere – other revision courses I have been to were much less relaxed. Tutors were very helpful spotting mistakes and correcting them.”
– Rohith
