Times: 9:15am – 4pm

Prerequisites: suitable for students who have studied Further Maths, including differential equations, polar coordinates, hyperbolic functions, and complex numbers.

A 3 day STEP Maths Preparation Course for students sitting STEP 3 for entry to Cambridge or Imperial College. Takes place over the Easter holidays. Part of a series of 4 STEP courses.

We will achieve the following in the context of STEP:

  • Develop a deep familiarity with complex numbers and the geometry of the complex plane
  • Perfect your understanding of polar coordinates
  • Become an expert at manipulating hyperbolic functions
  • Explore advanced integration problems
  • Improve your fluency with matrices and transformations (new to STEP!)

Description

A 3 day STEP Maths Preparation Course for students sitting 3 for entry to Cambridge or Imperial College. Takes place over the Easter holidays. Part of a series of 4 STEP courses.

Our popular STEP course returns, but this time harder and meaner, as befits the challenge we aim to help you overcome.  Hopefully, you will have grown more confident with STEP questions through exposure and practice, but you will also have noticed the gulf in difficulty between the STEP III paper and the others. Our goal is to help you bridge that gulf and to master the final and most challenging obstacle to achieving your Cambridge offer.

We promise to confront you with uncompromisingly difficult questions, yet also to make sure you get out the other side with a full understanding of the principles behind each one and the tools that make it answerable. We will cover a variety of topics that are unique to STEP III and that constitute the most common stumbling blocks for candidates. Along the way, we will explore some deeper aspects of the material that you will not have seen in your A-level classes. During the course, you will have the chance to learn from and alongside your fellow Cambridge applicants (who are quite possibly to be your friends and colleagues throughout your university career).
