About the BMAT Summer Course:

As a medic, if you’re applying to one of the eight universities that require the BMAT (Brighton and Sussex Medical School, Imperial, Lancaster University, University College London (UCL), University of Cambridge, University of Leeds and University of Oxford), you will know how important this exam is. In other words, it’s absolutely key to get a high score in this test to be called to the all-important medical interview.

Now, the BMAT is split into three sections. Section one is problem solving and critical thinking (thinking skills). Section two is a science based section and section three is an essay-based task. The majority of students like yourself who are sitting the BMAT will be studying science subjects at school. So normally, section two doesn’t provide too much of an issue. Section three is something that requires lots of independent practice to get right!

However, section one, the critical thinking and problem solving section, is something that proves quite challenging to a lot of medical applicants because it doesn’t directly relate to the subjects you are studying at school.

Critical thinking requires you to read a passage of text and quickly comprehend it in order to be able to draw logical conclusions from it, such as what the conclusion of the passages are, what flaws are in the argument, or what would strengthen or weaken the argument, as well as what assumptions it relies on.

So, due to popular demand, we are holding a two-day BMAT Section 1 Summer School. Day 1 will focus on critical thinking and Day 2 will focus on problem solving.

Here at the Oxford formula, we’ve devised a set of very unique techniques for each of the question types that you will come across. So if you like formulas, and algorithms for being able to answer even verbal reasoning/comprehension style question and comprehension/critical thinking style questions, then this is very much a course for you.

We make use of multiple different algorithms, symbols and mnemonics so that you get to learn a formulaic way of approaching these questions which you might otherwise find really tricky.

About the online resources:

In addition to the summer school, we haven’t forgotten section two or section three! We are the only providers of full video solutions for all 95% of all past BMAT questions and we’ve got hundreds of extra questions in our bank, which all have video solutions.

What is the advantage of a video solution? Well, if you just have a written one, when you look at it, you’ve lost the benefit of the question. You’ve seen how to do the question and you don’t have a chance to do it yourself. However with a video you can watch it through and pause it when you’ve got enough of a hint to continue yourself and then carry on with the question. Plus, at the end, you can go ahead and watch it to find the quickest and most efficient route through that question

Students like you know have giving our resources glowing reviews and they come highly recommended.
